Tiffany Boyle is a curator, researcher and writer, based in Glasgow. Her childhood experience of competitive gymnastics has been the springboard for a portfolio of curatorial and research projects, including exhibitions, screening programmes and discursive events, in partnership with venues such as CCA Glasgow and Flat Time House, London. I am a project board member of the 'Body Language: Movement, Dance and Physical Education in Scotland, 1890-1990' Wellcome Trust-funded archives project, bringing together the archives of Scottish Gymnastics, the Dunfermline Women's College of Physical Education, and Margaret Morris Movement International between Edinburgh University Library Special Collections and the Fergusson Gallery, Perth.
This site is named after 'De Arte Gymnastica' [The Art of Gymnastics], authored by Girolamo Mercuriale, published 1587 Florence. Considered the first text on sports medicine, it also contains the earliest use of the phrase 'artistic gymnastics.'
